Patty L. Day, age 77, of New Philadelphia died Saturday, February 15, 2014 in Mercy Medical Center at Canton.
A daughter of the late William C. and Helen E. (Nixon) Day, Patty was born at Loudonville, Ohio on Valentine’s Day, 1937.
A graduate of Columbus North High School, Patty went on to complete her undergraduate work in education at The Ohio State University and later obtained her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Kent State University.
She began her career as a Librarian with the former Pleasantville Schools and later worked for the New Philadelphia City Schools for more than 30 years, prior to her retirement.
In her free time, Patty enjoyed attending Ohio State football games, working jigsaw puzzles, traveling and eating out with friends. She was passionate about giving of her time to Browse-and-Buy, Community Hospice of Tuscarawas County and Little Theatre, in a variety of ways and was always supportive of any cause that enabled her to help animals, especially wolves, other wildlife creatures and domestic pets. She also enjoyed attending activities at the Tuscarawas County Senior Center.
While staying in Columbus, Patty would return to her family congregation, 10th Avenue Baptist church and locally attended First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia.
She will be missed by a brother, John, (wife, Gill) Day of Cleveland; two nieces, Coleen Titus and Jennifer Day both of Tampa, Florida; a nephew, Gregory Day of Los Angeles, California; seven great-nieces and nephews, her special friend, Glenn Lantzer of New Philadelphia and her many friends and long-time co-workers.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Rev. Doctor Steven Bailey will lead a service celebrating Patty’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Friday at 11:00 AM. Following the service, a luncheon will be shared in the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia. In keeping with Patty’s wishes, cremation will follow with inurnment in Union Cemetery at Columbus to take place at a later date.
