Patsy Y. Carlisle, age 87, of New Philadelphia passed peacefully, early Wednesday, January 15, 2025, in her residence following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Howard and Evelyn June Stull Schwendiman, Patsy was born on September 23, 1937, in Gnadenhutten, Ohio.
She was a graduate of the former Tuscarawas-Warwick High School and on January 28, 1956, married Theodore “Ted” Carlisle. Together the couple had eight children and shared in 43 years of marriage prior to Ted’s passing on August 20, 1999.
Patsy was known for her warm, loving spirit and her ever-present smile, which brightened the lives of everyone around her. A devoted member of the Word of Faith Christian Center in Dover, she carried her faith and kindness into everything she did. Patsy had a passion for staying active. She was a longtime member of the Tuscarawas YMCA and the Super Fitness Silver Sneakers. In her youth, she briefly competed in pageants, even earning the honor of runner-up as the queen of the Miss Clay Week Festival.
She cherished the time spent with friends and loved gathering with her Red Hat Society ladies and fellow members of the Rejoice Program. Patsy had a special love for nature, and in her downtime, you could often find her tending to her garden, hunting for morel mushrooms, or enjoying the simple pleasure of watching game shows. When it came to vacations, there was no place she’d rather be than by the ocean. She never turned down an opportunity to sit quietly on the beach as life happened around her.
Above all, Patsy’s life was centered around her family. She loved hosting holiday gatherings, including Easter egg hunts, Christmas baking parties, and Thanksgiving dinners, always welcoming anyone who sat at the family table.
She is survived by seven children, Connie, (Marty) Edwards, Pamela Carlisle, Theresa Murray, Dave (Traci) Carlisle, Ed (Shellie) Carlisle, Tim (Bobbette) Carlisle, and Theodore "Tony" Carlisle, Jr.; her grandchildren, Krisa, Matthew, Lindsey (Jason), Ashley (Brian), Joshua (Candi), Jessica (Josh), Ryan (Sarah), Gage (Jessica), Keith (Jessica) Kayti (Josh), Dominic, Jazmin (Alex), Shawn, Nicholas (Nicole), Thomas (Courtney), and Charles (Olivia); numerous great-grandchildren, a half-brother, Rod Schwendiman, a step-sister, Diane Hobart, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Patsy was preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda “Mandy” Carlisle, two brothers, Michael Schwendiman and John A. Schwendiman; her step-mother, Clara Schwendiman.
