Patrick J. Contini, age 95, of Dennison, died Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in his home following a period of declining health.Born at Dover Ohio on April 14, 1915, Patrick was a son of the late Lawrence and Elenor “Helen” (Ghezzi) Contini.Patrick served with the United States Navy as a Gunner’s Mate Second Class during World War II. On September 25, 1950, Patrick married the former Margaret Ann Bolen and together the couple reared two children.For many years, Patrick worked as a painter for the Ohio Department of Transportation and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Dennison.Patrick was well known for his skills as a softball pitcher having pitched for the Navy during World War II and later pitched for numerous teams throughout the years.Additionally, Patrick was an active participant in the sporting activities of St. Joseph, St. Mary’s and Tuscarawas Central Catholic where he served as a coach and an equipment manager. Moreover, Patrick was an avid Notre Dame sports fan.Patrick especially enjoyed the friendship of his special caregivers, Kimberly and Eunice Roup.He is survived by a daughter, Lorraine (Dennis) Gordon; a son, Christopher (companion, Jan Montgomery) Contini all of Dennison; and two sisters, Annie Contini of New Philadelphia and Jennie Warner of Dover.Five granddaughters, Shawnda (Geoff) Downing, Patricia Gordon, Jennifer (companion, Nick Williams) Gordon, Kristin (Kenny) Bethel and Kendra (companion, David Striker) Contini as well as numerous great-grandchildren complete the family.In addition to his parents and wife Patrick was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Mike, Lawrence, and Joseph Contini and five sisters, Connie Contini, Mary Schiavone, Antonette DeRosario, Lucille Duvall, and Florence “Flossie” Amicone.Father Anthony Lonzo will lead a Memorial Mass in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church at Dennison on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at 10:00 AM. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery at New Philadelphia where members of the Midvale VFW will perform military honors.Those unable to attend may send the family personal condolences by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.The family requests that memorial contributions in Patrick’s name be sent to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W Third Street, Dover, Ohio 44622.
