Patricia D. McDevitt, age 79, of Boca Raton, Florida and formerly of Dover, died unexpectedly Friday, June 12, 2009.Born at New Philadelphia on November 29, 1929, Patricia was a daughter of the late Dr. D.H. Downey, the former chief of staff of Union Hospital, and M. Doris Downey.Patricia grew up at Dover and received her schooling from Villa Madonna Academy at Kentucky and continued her formal education with Hanover College at Hanover, Indiana.In 1960, Patricia relocated to Florida and lived the last 29 years of her life as a resident of Boca Raton. While there, she owned and operated the Lighting Gallery at Deerfield Beach, Florida. Upon her retirement, Patricia spent a good amount of time serving as a Hospice Volunteer in the Boca Raton area.Patricia was an avid fisherwoman. She traveled the globe to see the sights of the world and would enjoy taking time while traveling to fish in the waters that surrounded the area in which she was visiting. Patricia adored her family and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind; a daughter, M. Suzanne Rogers of New Philadelphia; and a son, Michael L. Rogers, wife Diane, of Egg Harbor, New Jersey.Four Grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart of New Jersey, Kristin Stewart-Pepe, husband Brian, also of New Jersey, Merry Elena Philbrick, husband Ryon of New Philadelphia and Sgt. (USAF) Brian P.L. Abel of Knob Noster, Missouri; and two great-grandchildren Elena G. M. Philbrick and Caiden A Philbrick completes the family.In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Jack McDevitt; a brother John Downey, and a sister Betty Lahmer.Pastor Kevin West will lead a graveside service on Saturday, July 25, 2009, at 9:00 A.M. in the Maple Grove Cemetery at Dover where Patricia’s urn will be buried next to her parents.
