Patricia L. McGlumphy, age 78, of Stone Creek, died early Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011 in Union Hospital in Dover following a brief period of declining health and a seven year battle with Alzheimer’s disease.Born on September 10, 1933, in the family farmhouse in Stone Creek, Pat was the daughter of the late State Representative Vernon and Laura (Buss) Hisrich.A 1951 graduate of Stone Creek Jefferson High School where she was class president and valedictorian, Pat went on to attend The Ohio State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1955. She began working at University Hospital in Columbus and then became acquainted with a young teacher and coach at Stone Creek High School named Ed McGlumphy, when they were both asked to chaperone the senior trip for the Class of 1957. Following their courtship, Ed and Pat were married on October 12, 1957 in Stone Creek. As a couple, Pat and Ed raised three boys in eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania. Initially a full time mother caring for her young family, she would later return to the nursing field for an additional 20 years prior to retiring. In retirement, she and Ed moved back to Stone Creek and renovated and resided in the same house in which Pat was born.Pat had a tremendous passion for her family. She provided strong support for her husband throughout his teaching and coaching career and thoroughly enjoyed attending all of her sons’ and grandchildren’s activities. She had a special ability to make every holiday and birthday memorable. Pat’s other passion was tending to the flower gardens surrounding her home where she had caringly planted thousands of flower bulbs. Additionally, she enjoyed meeting with her friends at the Stone Creek Garden Club.Her love for the Ohio State Buckeyes never wavered; as a proud member of the Ohio State Alumni Association, Pat was in attendance at this year’s Buckeye home opener in Columbus and enjoyed the alumni band.Pat is survived by her husband Ed and three sons, Dr. Edwin A. (Deborah Mendel) McGlumphy, Jr. of Upper Arlington, Michael V. McGlumphy of Dayton, and Douglas J. (Jennifer Greer) of Stone Creek; two sisters, Twila (Robert) Lichti of Morton, IL and Karen Corcoran of Huntington Beach, CA; and two brothers, Dr. Glenn (Susan) Hisrich of Washington, PA and Dr. James (Cindy) Hisrich of Camp Verde, AZSix grandchildren, Joseph, Kellye, Mara, Max, Jacob, and Jonah McGlumphy, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, complete the family.In addition to her parents, Pat was preceded in death by an infant son, Jason P. McGlumphy and a brother-in-law, Bill Corcoran.The family will receive guests on Sunday, October 2, 2011 from 1:00 â?? 4:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. Pastor Edward W. Morrison will lead a celebration of Pat’s life at her home church, Zion United Church of Christ at Ragersville, on Monday, October 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow in the Ragersville Cemetery.Following the service, guests are invited to join the family for food and fellowship in the church social hall.Those unable to attend may send the family personal messages by signing the online guest registry located on the funeral home’s website.
