Pat Darwin Halchuck, age 59, of Dennison, passed away Thursday, October 16, 2008 in his home following a short battle with cancer.Born December 21, 1948 in Dover, he was a son of the late John S. and Mary A. (Hibbs) Halchuck. After graduating from New Philadelphia High School, he joined the United States Army where he honorably served his country in Vietnam for 31 months. He was also a member of the Bomb Squad.After completing his military service, he began working as a truck driver and mechanic for a number of companies, currently Maverick Trucking based in Little Rock, Arkansas. He also was employed by Goshen Dairy, Baker Highway Express and Victory Express.In his free time, Pat enjoyed rollerskating, hunting, playing his guitar and collecting model cars. He also spent numerous hours caring for and being entertained by his bird, Sonny.Pat is survived by his wife, the former Marcia Beiter whom he married on August 20, 1983. He will also be sadly missed by his two daughters, Tammy (Bob) Bowling and Paula (James) Reynolds, both of Uhrichsville; his grandchildren, Aaron, Courtney Jones, Jordan Bowling, Patricia and Dominic Reynolds, and Tricia Snyder and Paul Snyder who is currently servicing in Afghanistan; two great-grandchildren, Kimberly and Hailey Snyder; his siblings, John A. (Carolyn) Halchuck of Warren, Michael A. (Elizabeth) Halchuck of Canfield, Steven L. (Judy) Halchuck of Indiana, Diane C. (Michael) Weixler of Louisville, KY, and Richard E. (Brenda) Halchuck of Bolivar; and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Snyder who died January 16, 1990.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Sunday, October 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. A service celebrating Pat’s life will take place in the funeral home chapel on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center, located adjacent to the funeral home, where a reception will take place following the committal service.Pat’s family requests memorial contributions in his memory be directed to the American Cancer Society, 525 North Broad Street, Canfield, OH 44406.
