Othelia ”tillie” Roberts

Othelia Mary “Tillie” Roberts has been reunited with her husband, John “Phil” Roberts.  Tillie spent 95 years with us on earth before she was called to Heaven on Sunday, March 28, 2010, in Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center at New Philadelphia where she has been given appreciative care for the past seven years.  Born on Jan. 18, 1915, at Dennison, Tillie was a daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Engel) Moeller. On September 3, 1934, Tillie and Phil were married at Dennison and would reside at New Philadelphia before relocating to Mount Vernon, Ohio in 1959. Phil passed away shortly after his 72nd birthday in 1986. In 1989, Tillie moved to Stone Creek to live with her daughter and would remain in her care until 2002 at which time she became a resident of Schoenbrunn Healthcare.As a wife, mother and homemaker, Tillie loved to cook, crochet, and quilt. Her family remembers many delicious German dishes as well as fine Italian and Greek dishes she learned to prepare while she was a cook at the former Bassetti’s Restaurant at New Philadelphia and in a Greek restaurant at Mount Vernon.  Additionally, she worked in the linen room in Mercy Hospital at Mount Vernon for a number of years. Tillie was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at Mount Vernon and served the Altar Societies of both churches. Residents and staff of Schoenbrunn Healthcare Center were warmed by her bright smile and quick wit and knew her as the Queen of the Red Hatters. Tillie is survived by three sons, Paul (Joan) Roberts of Fruita, Colorado; Philip (Mako) Roberts of Lancaster, California; and Patrick (Connie) Roberts of Bakersfield, California and three daughters Marie (Conrad) Lamonica of Dover; Marcia (Frederick) Indermill of Stone Creek and Myra (Michael) Wilson of Mount Vernon. Completing her family are fourteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews who lovingly remember her as “Aunt Sis.” In addition to her parents and husband, Tillie was preceded in death by four brothers, Joseph, George, Edward and Paul; a sister, Marcella Deem and a great-grandson Zachary Horn. In keeping with Tillie’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory at Dover. Monsignor George J. Schlegel will celebrate a Memorial Mass on Friday, May 7, 2010, at 10:00 AM in Sacred Heart Catholic Church at New Philadelphia. Following the service, the family wishes to invite guests to join them in St. Ambrose Hall, adjacent to the church, where a meal and fellowship will be shared.
