Orville "J" Evans

On April 1, 2025, the world lost a remarkable individual, Orville "J" Evans, who passed away while doing what he loved, flying.

“J”, as many knew him, was born in Tucson, Arizona, and was the son of Junius O. Evans of Tucson and the late Shirley M. (Hills) Evans and lived a life full of dreams, kindness, and adventure, leaving behind a profound legacy that will be cherished by his family and friends.

“J” worked with dedication as a Maintenance Supervisor for Williams Harrison Hub in Scio, Ohio. His meticulous nature and commitment to excellence were evident in every aspect of his work. Yet, it was in the skies where he truly found his passion. From the moment he obtained his Private Pilot Certificate, “J” was drawn to the clouds, feeling an unparalleled sense of freedom and joy while flying. He pursued this passion with determination, achieving an Instrument rating, a Commercial Pilot Certificate, and a Multi-Engine Rating. It was always his dream to earn an Airline Transport Pilot Certificate, a goal that showcased his relentless pursuit of aviation.

Throughout his life, “J” shared countless adventures with his beloved wife, Linda, who was not only his partner in life but also his official "Co-Pilot." Together, they soared across the United States in their cherished plane, affectionately named “Cow Girl.” With every journey, they created enduring memories, exploring every corner of the country from the northernmost borders to the southern expanses, and flying from coast to coast. One of “J’s” proudest accomplishments was fulfilling his personal goal of taking off and landing a plane in all 50 states—a reflection of his adventurous spirit and love for flying.

Outside of his aviation dreams, “J” was known for his warm and welcoming personality. He had a remarkable ability to make others feel at ease, always greeting people with kindness and sincerity. His vibrant spirit and genuine warmth touched the hearts of many. Along with his wife, they attended the First Church of the Nazarene in New Philadelphia, where he and Linda shared their faith.

In addition to his father, “J” is survived by his wife and best friend, Linda K. (Seidler) Evans of the residence; his six children, Craig (Wynter) Evans of Connecticut, Joanha (Mike) Hathcock, Jamie (Chad) Herrera, Chris (Brandi) Brandon, Angela (Justin) Martinez all of New Mexico, and Molley Evans of California; his step-daughter, Brooke (Bill) Eberly of Gnadenhutten; 21 grandchildren; his brother, Bruce Evans of New Mexico and his sister, Shanna Evans of New Mexico.

In addition to his mother, “J” was preceded in death by a brother, John Evans.

A Memorial service for “J”, will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025 beginning at 11 AM in the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia with Pastor Scott Jones officiating.

As we remember “J”, we can carry forward the lessons he taught us—about dreaming big, pursuing our passions relentlessly, and nurturing the relationships that matter most. His memory will live on in the hearts of his loved ones, and will forever soar among the clouds that he cherished so dearly.
