Orvilla L. Carpenter, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born in New Philadelphia on April 13, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Arno J. and Pheobe (Baab) Groh.Orvilla was employed by the former Puritan Laundry in New Philadelphia as a clerk and was also an active member of the Midvale United Methodist Church where she participated in the Church Adult Daughters Class.Together with her husband, the late John R. Carpenter who passed away February 4, 1995, she raised two sons, Larry (Jeri) Carpenter of Hamilton, O., and Robert (Sue Ann) Carpenter of Bonita Springs, Fl. In addition to her children, she is survived by three granddaughters, Kelly (Charles) Warner, Lydia Carpenter, and Sharon Carpenter and one grandson, Mark (Carmo) Carpenter. Four great-granddaughters also survive including Caitlyn Warner, Kirsten Warner, Megan Warner, and Anna Carpenter. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Arlene Buss, Virginia Schwartz, and Gladys Groh.Friends may call Sunday, April 6, 2003 from 2 to 5 pm at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. A funeral service to celebrate Orvilla’s life will be held on Monday, April 7 at 10 am in the funeral home with Rev. Gordon Myers officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia.To honor her memory, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Midvale United Methodist Church.
