Olivette A. Brooks, 88, of Dover and a longtime resident of Roseville, Ohio passed away peacefully in her daughter’s home on August 29, 2012 with her family at her side.
Born in Port Henry, New York on February 29, 1924, she was the daughter of the late John Frances and Grace (Edwards) Hickey.
A 1941 graduate of Sherman Park Seminary, Olivette continued her formal education at a secretarial school. She then began her career with General Electric in Schenectady, NY, where she met her lifelong companion and friend, Russell L. Brooks. In 1945, they were united in holy marriage and enjoyed a full and loving life together until his death in 1996.
Russell and Olivette raised a beautiful family, whom they greatly loved. Together, they spent many days on their pontoon boat enjoying the outdoors and fishing. Olivette also tended to her flowers, garden, and her home and was a wonderful cook.
She will be deeply missed by her family including her children, Harold (Joyce) Brooks and Russell (Sherry) Brooks, both of Blue Rock, Ohio and Karen (Ken) Napier of Dover; her step-daughter, Ann Louise Taylor of Nova Scotia; her brothers, William (Marian) Hickey of Port Henry, NY, and John Hickey of Sterling Heights, Michigan; her grandchildren, Jonathan (Natalie) Brooks, Anna (Nick) Embrey, and Angela Carder, all of Zanesville, and The Rev. Craig (Susan) Rhodenizer of Buffalo, NY; her great-grandchildren, Wyatt Carder, Stephen Rhodenizer and Micah Brooks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Olivette was preceded in death by two sisters, Madge Reardon and Lucille McNulty; two brothers, John and Thomas Hickey; her grandson, Chad Cox; and her beloved doxins, Fred and Wilma.
A memorial service celebrating Olivette’s life will be held in the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 156 Beaver Ave. NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663, on Sunday, September 2, 2012 beginning at 2 p.m. with The Rev. Tim McCollum and Pastor Barry Carter co-officiating.
Following the service, a meal will be shared in the church fellowship hall.
Inurnment will be held in Kerr Cemetery at Mineral Ridge, Ohio at a later date.
Olivette’s family is especially grateful to Father Jeff Coning of Sacred Heart Church for his spiritual guidance.
