Nova Jane Fidler

Nova Jane “Janie” Fidler, 73, of Dover, passed away peacefully in the care of Community Hospice Truman House on Sunday, November 13, 2016.

Born in Canton on October 3, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Ezma (Ray) Brooks, and was raised by her grandparents, Clayton and Bess Ray of Carrollton.

Janie graduated from Carrollton High School in 1961. It was there she met and fell in love with her husband, Alton L. Fidler. On February 10, 1962, they were married and later blessed with the births of their two sons, Scott and Van.

Janie was employed by the Carrollton Free Press as a proof reader, New Philadelphia High School where she served in the cafeteria, and the Carlisle House in Walnut Creek.

Her faith was nurtured at Christian Ministries in Canton. She also loved to shop and find bargains at local auctions. Being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother was of utmost importance to Janie.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Alton of Dover; her sons, Scott (Brenda) Fidler of New Philadelphia and Van (Regina) Fidler of Sugarcreek; her grandchildren, Jeffrey (Carrie) Fidler of Dover, Cassandra Fidler and Andrew Fidler, both of Raleigh, NC, and Megan (James) Davis of Strasburg; her great-grandchildren, Braxton, Vienna, Zayne, and Kade Fidler; her siblings, Darlene (Vern) McCarty of Carrollton, Rita (Noble) Lovejoy of Atlanta, and Donald Brooks of Dellroy; and her sister-in-law, Ethel “Toots” Brooks of Bolivar.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Richard Brooks.

Visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. Pastor Jason Stephens will lead a service in the funeral home on Friday beginning at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park.
