Norman Earl Kohler, age 97, of Gahanna, died peacefully, Thursday, October 26, 2023, in his residence, following a period of declining health.
Born in the family home at Brightwood on December 5, 1925, Norman was a son of the late Dennis and Helen Miller Kohler. He attended the former Midvale High School and prior to his 18th birthday, began working for the former Reeves Steel at Dover. Soon after his 18th birthday, Norman joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in France and Germany as World War II came to a close.
Upon his honorable discharge, Norman moved to Chicago, where he studied Electronics and obtained his Bachelor Degree. He later settled in the Columbus area where he owned and operated Dependable TV, a television repair company. Norman enjoyed helping his neighbors and was a fiercely independent individual who enjoyed gardening, traveling, flying, fishing, and keeping his mind sharp by reading higher education textbooks and solving calculus problems.
He is survived by his siblings, Doris “Jackie” (Kenneth) Heid of Stone Creek, Patsy (Donald) Swank, Sally Ann Reichman, Kay (Albert) DeMattio, and Dan (Shari) Kohler all of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Janet Kohler of Massillon as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by an infant sister, Bonnie Kohler, siblings and in-laws, Velma (Walter) Cochran, Gerald Kohler, Nancy “June” Leggett, and Cork Reichman.
A graveside service will be led by Pastor Brian Flood on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at 1:00 PM in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia where members of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW will render military honors.
