Norma Jean Liedtke, age 82, of New Philadelphia, died Thursday, December 25, 2014 in Union Hospital following a period of declining health.
A daughter of the late William and Margaret (Moore) Howes, Norma was born at New Athens, Ohio on September, 6, 1932.
She graduated from Adena High School in 1951; and while visiting the skating rink at Tuscora Park, a young man named Donald Liedtke caught her eye. The couple married on November 8, 1952 and shared in 62 years of marriage.
After raising her family, Norma went to work for Lauren Manufacturing for seven years. She enjoyed dancing, listening to country music, attending high school basketball games at New Philadelphia and Fort Frye as well as camping, fishing, being with her family and taking every possible opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Norma is survived by three sons, Don (Tina) Liedtke, II of New Philadelphia, Chuck (Sherry) Liedtke of Dover, and Dan (Loretta) Liedtke of Lowell, Ohio; two sisters, Mary Jane Barrett and Sarah Janice Powell both of New Philadelphia; and a sister-in-law, Betty Howes of Florida.
Completing the family are seven grandchildren, Jessica Liedtke, Donald Liedtke, III, Chuck Liedtke, II, Tonya Liedtke, Morgan Liedtke, Megan Liedtke, and Makayla Liedtke; two great-grandchildren, Alexis and Alaina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles Howes, Wilburt Howes, and James Howes.
The family will greet guests on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Norma’s life will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Ridgecrest Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions in Norma’s name may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
