Norma Filkorn

Norma J. (Tabak) Filkorn, 77, of Bolivar, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 while surrounded by family following a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Peter and Helen (Rozum) Tabak, Norma was born February 17, 1940 at Struthers, Ohio.

Norma graduated from Struthers High School in 1958 and then graduated from the Trumbull Memorial School of Nursing RN Program in 1960.  She retired in 2000 as the General Manager of the former Tuscarawas County Colonial Manor Nursing Home.  She was a member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church of Struthers, Ohio.

Norma was a wonderful cook and enjoyed feeding her family and friends.  She also enjoyed spending time with her friends but most of all was a devoted mother who took great pride in her children.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Filkorn, whom she married November 17, 1961 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Warren, Ohio; a son, James R. Filkorn and his wife, Rebecca of Bolivar; two daughters, Beth Ann Filkorn of Escondido, California and Roberta Lou Filkorn and her husband, Joe Mellen of Lompoc, California; a grandchild, Ronni Williams of Escondido, California as well as her brother, Richard Tabak and his wife, Ann of Austintown, Ohio.

In keeping with Norma’s wishes, cremation will take place through the care of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 12:30 PM in the All Souls Cemetery Chapel at Cortland, Ohio with Father Bernard Schmalzried officiating.
