Norma Dell Avon, 82, of Stone Creek, died Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in her home following an extended illness.

A daughter of the late William and Estella (McPherson) Hore, Norma was born September 25, 1929 at Stone Creek, Ohio.

On July 29, 1947, Norma married the love of her life, John R. Avon and together the couple raised three sons, John Jr., David and Kevin.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Social Ministry Committee. She also served as the janitor of the church for 17 years.

Norma was a former home health aide for United Health Foundation and also served as a Gray Lady at Union Hospital in Dover. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting and was active in 4-H during her younger years.

She is survived by her loving husband, John R. Avon Sr. of the home; her sons, John R. Avon Jr. and David K. Avon both of Stone Creek and Kevin J. Avon of New Philadelphia; four grandsons, Matthew, David Allen, Kevin Jr. and Joshua Avon; a great grandson, Carter James Avon and many nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Irene, Sylvia, Louise and Mary; a brother, John and a daughter-in-law, Eileen Avon.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 9, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. and again one hour prior to the service on Friday in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Norma’s life will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Bill Haggis officiating. Burial will follow in Jerusalem Cemetery. Following the committal service, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall of Zion Lutheran Church at Stone Creek.
