Nioma Jean McClelland

Nioma Jean McClelland, age 72, of New Philadelphia passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 in Union Hospital at Dover.Born April 27, 1936 in Shock, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Woodrow and Gay Greathouse Norman, both originally of Gilmer County, West Virginia.After completing her education, Jean worked at numerous clothing stores throughout the community. She also was a talented crafter. She and her sister, Mary Kohler, were crafting partners, owning Patches and Pandemonium for numerous years. From there, the two enjoyed more than 10 years as crafters at the Amish Flea Market.On a snowy night playing cards, she met her future husband of 48 years, Terry McClelland. Together, Jean and Terry enjoyed spending time restoring their Heritage Home and traveling in their retirement. Anyone in her family who was able, enjoyed a week-long trip to Myrtle Beach each year where they could relax and enjoy one another’s company. Most importantly, Jean loved being a wife, sister, mother, and friend. Jean was blessed growing up with her seven brothers and sisters who include Nancy Moss of Vienna, West Virginia, Mary (Russ) Kohler of Sugarcreek, Connie Gallagher of Dover, Ed (Linda) Norman, of New Philadelphia, Jack (Judy) Norman of Sugarcreek, John (Betsy) Norman and Joe (Kris) Norman, both of New Philadelphia; a brother-in-law, Mark (Susan) McClelland of Hanford, California; a sister-in-law, Rebecca (Doug) Spade of Frazeysburg, O.; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss their Aunt Jean.In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Michelle Lee McClelland, who they tragically lost on October 2, 1989 at the age of 22.No public visitation will be held and a private memorial service for Jean’s family will take place in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home Chapel at a later date. Jean’s cremated remains will be buried in Evergreen Burial Park alongside her daughter.Jean’s family requests memorial contributions be directed to the American Lung Association, 6100 Rockside Woods Parkway, Independence, OH 44131.
