Nina Carol Ronald, age 77, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully early Tuesday morning, April 12, 2005. Born at Blue, West Virginia, on September 6, 1927, Nina was a daughter of the late Herman and Bessie Jones Spencer. She and her family moved to southern Tuscarawas County when Nina was young. She was a 1945 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, and later that summer, on July 10, 1945, she married Lee H. Ronald. The couple would spend thirty-nine years together before his death on May 3, 1978. Nearly twenty years ago, Nina retired as a proofreader from the Deluxe Check Printers at Miami, Florida. For many years she was a resident of Plantation, Florida.Locally she was a member of the First United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia and the Hope Circle there. She formerly taught Sunday School at the church for many years. She also volunteered many hours as a Girl Scout leader in the area. She loved to crochet and loved more so, to share the fruits of her labor with the underprivileged. During her lifetime, she donated hundreds of quilts to Project Linus, which distributes blankets to seriously ill and traumatized children. Together with her husband, Nina reared a family that includes three daughters; Nancy (Clifford) Cline of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ruth (Frank) Leone of New Philadelphia, and Linda (John) Roper of Chester, Virginia, and a son; Bruce E. (Julie) Ronald of New Philadelphia.She will be sadly missed by her ten grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren, a brother; Calvin (Rita) Spencer of Pohoa, Hawaii, and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, Nina was preceded in death by her two brothers; Herbert and Edwin Spencer. In accordance with Nina’s wishes, there will be no public visitation. Cremation will take place. The Rev. Harry Milligan will lead a memorial service celebrating Nina’s life Friday afternoon, April 15, 2005, at 1:30 in the Chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. The Ronald family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to services.The Ronald family requests that memorial contributions be made to Project Linus, P O Box 5621, Bloomington IL 61702-5621 so her legacy of helping those less fortunate may continue in perpetuity.
