Nellie Phillips

Nellie Phillips, 89, formerly of New Philadelphia, died Saturday May 12, 2018 in The Inn at Northwood Village at Dover after a period of declining health.

A daughter of the late Logan and Sarah (Darr) Kline, Nellie was born at Nashville, Ohio on September 18, 1928.

Nellie was a 1947 graduate of the Glenmont High School. Following her graduation Nellie held jobs as, a hairstylist, a bearing inspector at Timken, an employee of the billing department of Aultman Hospital and a bookkeeper for a local accounting firm. After marrying her husband, Herbert Lawson Phillips on April 30, 1955, Nellie began caring for her loving family.

Nellie led her life with the Lord at the center and was an avid church member of Jerusalem Church in New Philadelphia, where she served as the church Treasurer for many years. Nellie’s passion for her family extended beyond her own, she enjoyed the fellowship and lessons with other members of the Homemaker’s Club of Tuscarawas County. She also enjoyed sewing and making clothes for her sons. When she was not caring for her family, she enjoyed hiking and gardening and being a part of the Hiker’s Club of Canton and the 4-H Club of New Philadelphia.

Nellie is survived by her sons, David (Kimberly) Phillips of New Philadelphia, Gregg (Tina) Phillips of Canton and Tom (Eleanor) Phillips also of Canton; grandchildren, Kyle (Lindsay) Phillips, Tyler (fiancée, Pamela) Phillips, Jennifer (Brian) Menefee, Michele (Drew) Puffer, Charles (Dani) Phillips, and Christopher Phillips; great-grandchildren, Olivia Phillips, Eliza Phillips and Maria Phillips; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nellie is preceded in death by her husband Herbert Lawson Phillips.

The family will receive guests on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 1-2 PM in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover where Reverend Tom Hendershot will lead a service celebrating Nellie’s life at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park. Following services a meal and fellowship will be held in the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center.
