Nellie Pearl Jones

Nellie Pearl Jones, 87, of Dover, died Wednesday morning, June 21, 2006 at Park Village Health Care Center at Dover. Born September 10, 1918 in Maryland, she was the 7th child of the late Charles W. and Sophia C. (Coonrad) Evans. After finishing her formal education, Nellie began her lifelong career as a cook and caretaker in West Virginia before moving to Ohio. On January 3, 1948, she married her late husband, Denzil J. Jones who preceded her in death on December 6, 1997. Together, they had two children, Larry Dale (Mary Jo) Jones and Wilma (companion, Carl Schriever) Snyder, both of Dover.Throughout her lifetime, she worked for numerous businesses as a cook. Some of the businesses included the former Cindy’s Restaurant and the Junction Restaurant, both of Strasburg; Hennis Care Center; and the Dover V.F.W. Even after a long day at work, Nellie always came home and cooked a wonderful meal for her family. Nellie loved playing Bingo and cooking, but she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren whom she loved dearly.Her grandchildren include Renee (Jon) Ladrach of Dover, and Kelly (Troy) Oreto and Erik (Bobbi Jo) Kugler, both of New Philadelphia. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Logan, Madison, Jayden, Erika, and Jennifer; and one step-great-grandchild, Tyler.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Oscar N., Elzie F. Simon P., Fred W., Raymond P; one sister, Carrie M. Mahoney; and a great-granddaughter, Sara.Visitation will be held Saturday, June 24, 2006 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Geib Funeral Center, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., Dover. A funeral celebrating Nellie’s life will immediately follow visitation at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Bob Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Ridgecrest Memory Garden. Friends and family are invited back to the Geib Funeral Center’s hospitality suite located inside the funeral home where a meal will be served following the committal service.
