Nellie L. Turney

Nellie L. Turney, 81, of New Philadelphia passed away Thursday afternoon, July 16, 2015 in New Dawn Healthcare Center at Dover following a period of declining health.

Born in Warwick Township on February 24, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Lillian (Carpenter) Davis. After graduating from Midvale High School, Nellie married her lifelong companion and friend, Robert Dean Turney, on September 18, 1954.

Nellie’s faith was nurtured at the Sharon Moravian Church where she was a lifelong member. In addition to caring for her husband, son, and family, Nellie greatly enjoyed being outdoors, whether she was tending to her flowers or yard. She also enjoyed canning food from her garden.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Dean of New Philadelphia; her son and daughter-in-law, Robert Alan and Martha Turney of New Philadelphia; her grandson, Jeremy Turney of New Philadelphia; her brother Charles (Linda) Davis of Strasburg; her brother-in-law, Larry Everett of New Philadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Nellie was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary (Roy) Medley Everett, Betty Davis, Anna (Harold) Miller, William (Anna) Davis.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. A service celebrating Nellie’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.

Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center following the committal service where a meal will be shared.
