Nell Gazdik

Nell (Romanic) Gazdik, 100, of New Philadelphia died peacefully, Sunday evening December 31, 2017 while in the care of Community Hospice at Park Village South.

Born at Force, Pennsylvania on December 12, 1917, Nell was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Filik Romanic.

Following her graduation from Houston Township she furthered her education at Duff’s Iron City College in Pittsburgh. For many years, Nell was a secretary at an engineering firm in Pittsburgh and retired on December 1, 1979.

On August 12, 1950, Nell married John Gazdik. Together the couple reared one son and shared in 41 years of marriage prior to his passing on July 29, 1992.

Nell was an excellent cook who loved sharing her homemade applesauce. She was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers who attended as many games as possible throughout her lifetime. Another activity Nell loved was her nightly watching of Wheel of Fortune.

For many years, Nell was a member of Saints Simon & Jude Church at Scott Township, Pennsylvania and Sacred Heart Church at New Philadelphia. She also enjoyed the company and activities at the Garaway Senior Center in Sugarcreek.

Nell is survived by her son, Mark J. (Karen) Gazdik of New Philadelphia; three grandchildren, Mark T. (Stacy) Gazdik of Fairborn, Ohio, Matthew R. (Kim) Gazdik of Westminster, Colorado, and Michael (Danielle) Gazdik of Palmyra, Virginia; two step-grandsons, Michael Picchetti of New Philadelphia and Curtis Picchetti of Pennsylvania, and her great-grandchildren, Andrew Gazdik, Noah Gazdik, Jack Gazdik, Molly Gazdik, Owen Gazdik, Gavin Gazdik, and Sydney Gazdik as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Nell was preceded in death by her siblings, Estelle Milleman, Mary Romanic, Susan Robinson, Andrew Romanic, John Romanic and Kay Llewellyn.

The family will greet guests on Friday, January 5, 2018 from 6-8 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where a Christian Wake Service will begin at 8 PM. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery in Pittsburgh will take place at 10:30 AM on Saturday.
