Ned A. Schumacher

Ned A. Schumacher, 77, of Goshen, died peacefully surrounded by his family Saturday, March 29, 2003, at Union Hospital in Dover.Born in Warwick Twp, on May 4, 1925, he was a son of the late Simon and Florence (Schaar) Schumacher.As a young boy, Ned helped with his family farm. After he graduated from Tuscarawas High School in 1943, he chose to make farming his lifelong career. In his early years, he raised livestock, also. When he retired in 2001, he was farming more than 1, 000 acres. In addition to his passion for farmin, he loved cutting wood and was a life member of the Sharon Moravian Church in Tuscarawas.Together with his first wife of 33 years, the late Martha Errington Schumacher, he raised two daughters, Rita (Steve) Bilikam of Westerville, Ohio and Tina (Chris) Michel of Centerburg, Ohio. On March 12, 1983, he married the former Doris M. Day who survives. In addition to his daughters and wife, he is survived by a brother, Glen Schumacher of Tuscarawas; two step-sons, Tom (Sandy) Meyers of Goshen and Marvin (Kathy) Meyers of Uhrichsville; four grandchildren, Ryan Bilikam, Darcy Bilikam, Evan Michel and Macy Michel; five step-grandchildren, Beth Ann Davis, Tonya Meyers, Todd Meyers, Dawn Meyers, and Michele Lehigh; and six great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents and first wife, Ned was preceded in death by his sister, Cleala Horn.Friends may call Monday, March 31, 2003 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home in New Philadelphia. A funeral service to celebrate Ned’s life will be held Tuesday, April 1, 2003 at 10 AM in the funeral home with Rev. Michael R. Foran officiating. The graveside service will immediately follow at the Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. After the committal, friends and family are invited to the Sharon Moravian Church where a meal will be served. To honor his memory, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sharon Moravian Church, SR 416, PO Box 385, Tuscarawas, OH, 44682, or The American Heart Association, Ohio Valley Affiliate, PO Box 182039 Dept.
