Nancy Colleen Swope, 74, of New Philadelphia, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, January 5, 2014 in Union Hospital at Dover following a short period of declining health.
A daughter of the late Eldon and Minnie (Geiger) Humphrey, Nancy was born July 12, 1940 at Youngstown, Ohio.
Nancy graduated from Austintown-Fitch High School in 1958. She then continued her education at Youngstown University graduating with an Associate’s degree in business. Then, on July 30, 1960, she married the love of her life, Stanley W. Swope and together the couple raised two children, Gerald and Darla.
She was retired from Chase Bank at Dover. Nancy was a member of the Dover Alliance Church where she attended the West of 55 activities as well as helped with delivering meals. She was an active member of the community having been a member and current Vice President of the Union Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, the Red Hat Society and the Dover Historical Society. She enjoyed playing bridge in her spare time and was also a member of many bridge clubs.
She is survived by her husband, Stanley; her children, Gerald Swope of Canton and Darla (Terry) Shryock of Canal Winchester, Ohio; her grandchildren, Tyler and Leah Shryock and a sister, Jean Chrisopolous of Cortland, Ohio.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, John Humphrey.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 9, 2015 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. A funeral service celebrating Nancy’s life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at 11 a.m. in the Dover Alliance Church with Pastor Richard Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Burial Park. Following the committal service a luncheon will be held in the fellowship hall at the church.
