Nancy J. Maurer, age 74, of Dover, died peacefully early Thursday morning, April 5, 2007, in Union Hospital at Dover. Born at Dover, April 21, 1932, Nancy was a daughter of the late Glen Thomas Studer and Dorothy Mae Dunlap Studer. Young Nancy attended school at Dover before her family relocated to West Virginia. Nancy returned a short time later to marry her high school sweetheart, Adrian Maurer on November 20, 1948, in St. John’s E&R Church at Dover. Nancy enjoyed being busy. As a young lady, she worked in the former Barr Drug Store, and for twenty-nine years in school cafeterias in both East Elementary and at Park School at Dover. Her warm smile and gentle demeanor was a welcome sight for thousands of students through the decades. Nancy made her way around town by bicycle, and loved to spend time outside Â? especially in the warmer months when her skin would take on a deep dark sun-kissed radiance. Evenings and winter months were spent knitting and crocheting and sometimes playing card games, especially solitaire. Mrs. Maurer was a faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia. She and her family were former members of the First Church of God at New Philadelphia. Over the years Nancy and Adrian attended many southern gospel tent concerts Â? even hosting in their home gospel singing groups that would perform in concert at Dover High School. Nancy and Adrian observed their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary together in November. During their time together, they’ve reared a family of five; Jim (wife Judy) Maurer of Powell, Ohio, Tom (wife Jane) Maurer of North Canton, Ohio, Suzy (husband Phil) Neiger of New Philadelphia, Jeff (wife Jan) Maurer of North Canton, Ohio, and Shari (husband Randy) Harper of Strasburg.
