Nancy Irene Fisher

April 18, 1939 — March 16, 2013

Nancy Irene Fisher, age 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, March 16, 2013, in her home.

Born April 18, 1939, in her family home that was just across the street from where she died, she was one of six children born to the late Remus and Lillian Simmons Belknap Sr.

Nancy attended New Philadelphia High School, and was a homemaker for most of her life.

Best remembered for her duties as a crossing guard along East High Avenue, Nancy delighted in the relationships she developed with parents and young people alike. She took the time to get to know the names of the students, and looked forward to making their days special whether by a piece of candy, a treat at Halloween, or a special Valentine’s card.

She was a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center and the ladies auxiliary of the New Philadelphia Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1445.

Nancy will be remembered by her family as a wonderful cook and excellent homemaker and for her love of dancing and watching scary movies.

Survivors include her longtime partner, Al Petrie of the home, as well as her son Rick (wife, Debra) McCoy of New Philadelphia, and a daughter Amy (husband, Rob) Rufener of Strasburg.

Four grandchildren; Keely and Kayce McCoy of New Philadelphia, Nick (wife Heather) Rufener of Dover, and Cody Rufener of Strasburg, and three great grandchildren; Makenna, Kaitlynn, and Caden Rufener also survive.

A sister, Mary Ruszin of New Philadelphia and a brother, Remus (wife Shawn) Belknap, Jr. complete the family.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by three sisters; Lou Gerber, Sue Carr and Patricia Grove.

Cremation is planned and the family will gather for a memorial service Thursday afternoon, March 21, at 2PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where the family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
