N. Joan Stiffler

February 4, 1934 — August 12, 2016

Joan Stiffler, a child of God, prayer warrior, Nana Banana, and sister in Christ, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on August 12, 2016, surrounded by her loving family in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Born in Coshocton, O. on February 4, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Russell E. and Margaret A. (Wolcott) Snedeker. Joan graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1951.

Joan’s faith was nurtured at the Foursquare Gospel Church in Dover. There, the “Nana Van” was always bringing adults and students alike to and from worship, youth events, and church gatherings. She was also asked to lead the youth group at Jerusalem Church in New Philadelphia for a number of years.

Joan not only was diligent in serving within the church, but took her faith into the community and schools. For 23 years, she was the Tuscarawas County coordinator of the National Day of Prayer. She also provided the same leadership for Carroll County.

She has been affiliated with Break the Grey for the past 5 years, serving as a field manager for the 9 schools in Tuscarawas County and also bringing the program to Holmes and Carroll County schools.

Being “Nana” was of great importance to Joan. She dearly loved her family and was devoted to them. One special memory her grandchildren will treasure is her “Stocking Nights” where she enjoyed showering them with gifts in their Christmas stockings.

Joan will be deeply missed by her family including her children, Suzanne (Tom) Moore, Becki (Jeff) Reiser, and Doug Stiffler, all of New Philadelphia; her grandchildren, Josh (Rose) Moore of Springfield, VA, Micah (Rebecca) Reiser of Ashburn, VA, Sean Moore of New Philadelphia, Jordan (Brittany) Reiser of Evansville, IN, and Christopher (fiancé, Stephanie) Reiser, of Gnadenhutten; and her great-granddaughter, Chloe Moore of Springfield.

On Friday, Joan was reunited with her parents, her dear granddaughter, Elizabeth Reiser; her great-grandsons, Caleb and Ezekiel Moore; her step-mother, Helen Snedeker; her sister, Ann Foster and her former husband, William “Bud” Stiffler.

A Celebration Service led by Pastor Dennis Shearer will be held in the Foursquare Gospel Church on Sunday, September 4, 2016 at 2 p.m., with an opportunity to greet Joan’s family one hour prior to the service.

Memorial contributions in Joan’s memory may be directed to any Dover-Phila Credit Union in her name.
