Milford Casper Dessecker

Milford Casper Dessecker, 86, of New Philadelphia, passed away surrounded by his loving family on June 28, 2015 in the Community Hospice House at New Philadelphia.

Born in New Philadelphia on June 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Charles M. and Sadie P. (Aubihl) Dessecker.

After completing his formal education at Midvale High School, he honorably served his country in the United States Army.

On September 29, 1950, Milford married his lifelong companion and friend, the former Mary H. Kerr. Together, they would have celebrated 65 years of marriage this year.

Milford’s professional career began at Belmont Stamping. He then continued working at Kimble Coal Co., International Salt in Cleveland, and ultimately retired from Gross Welding.

He was a talented woodworker who loved to create birdhouses and birdfeeders. He also was a member of the New Philadelphia VFW #1445 and the Calvary Baptist Church in New Philadelphia.

Milford will be deeply missed by his wife, Mary; his daughters, Karen (Michael) Page of Stone Creek, Gloria (Garry) Lute of Goshen, Linda (Greg) Shaffer of New Philadelphia, and Diane (Bud) Kohler of New Philadelphia; his brothers, Roy (Linda) Dessecker and Willard (Louise) Dessecker, both of New Philadelphia; his grandchildren, Jamie and Jeremy Page, Amber Hobart, Garry Lute, Jr., Seth Lute, Adam and Luke Menapace, and Stephanie Steiner; 14 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and his dog, Cricket.

In addition to his parents, Milford was preceded in death by his siblings, Maxine Sullivan and Merle Dessecker.

Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia on Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. A service celebrating Milford’s life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Thursday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Snow officiating. Burial will follow in East Avenue Cemetery where the New Philadelphia VFW Post #1445 will render military honors.
