Mildred ”millie” M. Martin

Mildred Marie “Millie” Martin, age 79, of New Philadelphia passed away at her home on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 following an extended illness.Born in Londonderry, O. on November 14, 1930, she was the daughter of the late George Stage and Mable Martha (Casterline) Voorhes.After completing her formal education at Dundee High School, Millie married her husband, Albert E. “Gene” Martin, on January 22, 1949 in the Assembly of God Church in New Philadelphia. Together, they enjoyed a life filled with much fun, a loving family, and true friends.Millie and Gene spent their early years in Hilliard, Ohio before returning to Tuscarawas County to be close to their family. They enjoyed wintering in Florida, traveling with friends and family, and appreciating and supporting their children and grandchildren. They also had a love for auto races, spending many days at the racetracks throughout their lifetime.Millie was a lady of true character and lived her life with traditional values. She was a devoted mother and wife, always caring for Gene and her children’s every need whether she was raising food in her garden or sewing their clothing. She also acted as the family doctor, nursing many back to health. She was a person who deeply valued family and made it a personal mission to bring them together as often as possible. Millie loved the holidays and also was the founder of her family reunion and weekly social events. Although Millie’s lifelong passion was being a homemaker, she did enjoy driving a school bus for Indian Valley Schools for five years.Mildred will be deeply missed by her husband, Gene; her children, Carole (Andy) Ronald, Phyllis (Stan) Millbaugh, and Randy (Cheryl) Martin, all of New Philadelphia, and Duane (Sharon) Martin, of Blacklick, O.; her grandchildren, Michael (Dawne) Ronald, Stacey (Todd) Dessecker, Erica Martin, Ryan Martin, Shawna Everett, Chad Martin, Brandon Martin, Brittney Martin and Marcie Martin; her five great-grandchildren, Corey, Amber, Jacob, Joey and Alex Ronald; her step-grandchildren, Vi (Don) Leggett, Heidi (Randy) Sanders, Robin (Dave) Angel and Brian Everett; her two sisters, Alma Mae (Dave) Mason of New Philadelphia and Betty (Jack) Hale of Dover; her mother-in-law, Anna Marie Martin of Dover; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.In addition to her parents, Millie was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Lynn Everett and her father-in-law, George H. Martin.Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory on Sunday, April 25 from 2 to 5 p.m. A service celebrating Millie’s life will be held in the funeral home on Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Brian Flood officiating. Inurnment will follow the service in Evergreen Burial Park.
