Mildred Jane Painter, 92, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, May 2, 2005, in Union Hospital at Dover.A daughter of the late Samuel Edward and Nancy Jane Cashdollar Donaldson, Mildred was born October 29, 1912, in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania.She was a 1930 graduate of Pitcairn High School, and graduated nurses training from Columbia Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mildred worked as a registered nurse at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D. C. from 1935 to 1938, and later as a Public Health Nurse in Pittsburgh. She also worked and lived in Canton and Massillon before moving to New Philadelphia in 1959, where she worked for area physicians before becoming the founding director of the United Health Foundation. She retired in 1986 after 18 years of service.Mildred was dedicated to her community and proud of her more than 60 years of health and human service. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia, a former member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia, a member of the Ohio Nurses Association, helped to organize the Lawyers Wives Association, was instrumental in the formation of the Tuscarawas Co. Senior Center, member and former board member of the Tuscarawas Co. Historical Society, member of the original Clionian Club, and was active with Friends of the Tuscarawas County Library. She was dedicated to her family and her community, was recognized in 1985 as “Outstanding Senior Citizen of Tuscarawas Co.”; in 1986, AARP award for outstanding Senior Citizen, and in 1995, was the recipient of the United Way “Vic Marsh” award for humanitarian services. Additionally Mildred enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her family.She is survived by daughters, Patricia (Ted) Kubick, of Houston, Tx., and Marcia (Joe) Newhart, of Kingwood, Tx; a sister, Marjorie Heaton, of Toledo, O; a granddaughter, Stephanie Newhart, of Oakland, Ca; grandsons, Eric (Meagan) Newhart, of New York City, Lee (Lisa) Morris, of Dallas, Tx., Jamie (Maria) Morris, of Evansville, In., and Christopher (Anne) Kubick, of Albany, Ca; and great granddaughters, Natalie Morris, Ashley Morris and Maggie Morris. Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; and in 1965 by her husband, James W. Painter, whom she married August 26, 1939.A celebration of Mildred’s life will be held Saturday, May 7, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia with Rev. Jeff Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. A reception in the Geib Family Center will follow the service. In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated and buried along side her husband at Evergreen Burial Park at a later date.
