Mildred “Midge” Irene Thomas, 86, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Sunday, November 27, 2005 at Country Club Retirement Campus in Dover.A daughter of the late Charles and Edith Hughes, Midge was born June 19, 1919 in Dover, Ohio.She was a 1937 graduate of Dover High School and was formerly employed as an office worker at Fenton Brothers Electric in New Philadelphia. Midge was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia where she was also a member of the Ruth Circle.Midge was also a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Citizens and a former member of the New Philadelphia Garden Club. She enjoyed sewing and making crafts, especially the teddy bears in which so many people of the area enjoyed. She also was an avid bridge player.She is survived by one brother, William (Wanda) Hughes of Dover; two brothers-in-law, Donald (Peg) Thomas of New Philadelphia and Harold Hertzig of Mansfield; one sister-in-law, Edythe Thomas of Akron; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.Midge was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willard “Wid” Thomas who died November 6, 1993; and two sisters, Mary Lanzer and Charlotte Bertle.A service celebrating Midge’s life will be held on Friday, December 2, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia with Rev. Jeffrey Gerber and Jill Lovett officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 10 a.m to 11 a.m. Following the services on Friday, a memorial reception will be held in the fellowship hall of the First United Church of Christ in New Philadelphia.Memorial contributions may be made in Midge’s name to the First United Church of Christ, 201 Fair Avenue NW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
