Mildred Fern Mason

Mildred Fern Mason, 95, of Dover and formerly of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday, October 23, 2007 in New Dawn Retirement Community at Dover.A daughter of the late James and Rachel (Robinson) McCartney, Mildred was born October 27, 1911 at Sherrodsville, Ohio.Mildred attended Beauty School at Canton and then owned and operated Mason’s Beauty Shop out of her home from 1939 to 1979.She was a member of the First United Church of Christ of New Philadelphia where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School class. Mildred was also a former member of the Bethesda Rebecca Lodge # 310 at New Philadelphia.She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Lois Mason of Dover; grandchildren, Jim (Jan) Mason of Cambridge, Ohio, Kathy Hootman of Coshocton, Ohio, Diane (Jon) Davis of North Carolina, Greg (Kathy) Mason of Millersport, Ohio, Peggi VanWinkle of New Philadelphia and Patti Bigler of New Philadelphia; and 12 great grandchildren.Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Roy M. Mason, who passed away on January 28, 1979; a son, Clyde Mason, who passed away on August 8, 1991; one sister and three brothers.Family and friends may call on Friday, October 26, 2007 from 10 to 11 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A funeral service celebrating Mildred’s life will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Jeffrey Gerber officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
