Mildred Edith Shannon, 87, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, October 21, 2005, at Park Village Health Care Center in Dover.A daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Moorman) Howard, Mildred was born August 31, 1918 in Cincinnati, Ohio.Mildred, who was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in New Philadelphia, was employed as a greeter at Wal-Mart for 11 years. She was a member of the Tuscarawas County Senior Center as well as a member of the Society of Red Hats. She was also active in the Seniors Group at the Otterbein United Methodist Church. Mildred also was a collector of unusual and distinctive hats.She is survived by her loving family which include two daughters; Gloria Loyd of Milford, Ohio and Gladys “Taffy” Limbaugh of New Philadelphia; one daughter-in-law, Janice Adams of Brentwood, Tennessee; 16 grandchildren; James (Darlene) Loyd, Joel (Tami) Loyd, Marsha (Jim) Collier, Shannyn T. Limbaugh, Lorie (Doug) Tibbitts, Kelly (Myron) MacNeil, Scott (Missy) Limbaugh, Keith (Stephanie) Limbaugh, Kim (Joe) Schafer, Kelley Adams, Karyn Freeze, Kyla Parks, Krista (Shannon) Scotten, Kevin Ewing, Kendall Ewing and Linda (David) Zehring; as well as many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; one brother, Norman Howard of Cincinnati, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.Mildred was preceded in death by two sons, Hobart and Howard Adams; one son-in-law, G. Edward Limbaugh; four sisters; one brother; and two great-grandchildren.Visitation will be Sunday, October 23, 2005, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory in New Philadelphia. A funeral service for Mildred will be held on Monday, October 24, 2005 at 9 a.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Chapel with Rev. Kelly Brown and Rev. James Taggert officiating. Burial will take place at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Cincinnati, Ohio at 3 p.m on Monday.Memorial contributions may be made in Mildred’s name to the Otterbein United Methodist Church, 156 Beaver Avenue NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
