Mildred E. Welling, age 100, of New Philadelphia, died Monday, November 28, 2011 much to her own relief, in Hennis Care Center at Dover.A daughter of the late Jacob F. and Iva Luke Bigler, Mildred was born at New Philadelphia on September 24, 1911. She was a 1929 graduate of New Philadelphia High School and was the last living member of her class. On June 17, 1935 she married Robert K. Welling. The couple reared three children and celebrated more than 40 years of marriage prior to his passing on April 16, 1977.Mildred was a member of the Broadway United Methodist Church at New Philadelphia as well as a member of the Union Grange #1450 for more than 50 years and the Oldtown Valley Ladies Aid.She is survived by her family which includes a daughter, Susan (John) Cihon of North Canton; a son, John (Cora) Welling of New Philadelphia; four grandchildren, Mary Welling, Carol (James) Boltz, Michael (Stephanie) Cihon, and Jennifer (Thomas King) Cihon; one great-granddaughter, Emily Cihon and two great grandsons, Chase and Weston Boltz.In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by a son, Thomas D. Welling. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Thursday, December 1, 2011, from 10-11 AM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Pastor Bill Sowers will lead Mildred’s Service on Thursday at 11 AM in the funeral home’s chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Geib Family Center at New PhiladelphiaMildred’s family would like to extend their appreciation to all of the staff at Hennis Care Center at Dover for their exemplary care and compassion during her stay.The family suggests that contributions be made to the following charities in Mildred’s memory in lieu of sending flowers: Macular Degeneration Research, P.O. Box 1952, Clarksburg, MD 20871-1952 or to the Broadway United Methodist Church, 120 Church Street SE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
