Mildred Ann Cronebaugh, 91, of Stone Creek, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in her home following a period of declining health.A daughter of the late Howard and Ida (Rausch) Angel, Mildred was born on the family farm at Stone Creek on June 29, 1919.Mildred graduated from Stone Creek High School in 1936 and attended Kent State University for one year. Then on August 19, 1939, she married Ralph Cronebaugh and together they raised two children, Carolyn and Howard.She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church at Stone Creek. From the age of 14, Mildred served as a Sunday School teacher. She was also a Past President of the Lutheran Women’s Group.Mildred was an avid farmer and served as a former Jefferson Township Clerk. She also served as the secretary/treasurer for the Tuscarawas County Trustees and Clerks Association.She was a very active member of the Grange. Mildred was currently serving as the Legislative Agent and Lecturer for the Jefferson Grange and was once honored as the Ohio State Granger of the Year. Mildred was also active in 4-H. She served as an advisor for 60 years and also served on the Home Economics committee for several years. For her 4-H efforts, Mildred was inducted into the Ohio State 4-H Hall of Fame as well as being inducted to the Ohio State 4-H Alumni Association.Mildred’s favorite time of the year was during the Tuscarawas County Fair. Over the years she entered numerous exhibits for judging in a variety of categories simply for her desire to participate in the fair.Being the community minded person she was, Mildred helped initiate the Annual Stone Creek Halloween Parade and Party. She even helped to take it one step further when the committee decided to honor a couple each year for their dedication to the community at the festival.Surviving are her children, Carolyn (David) Lauer and Howard (Janice) Cronebaugh both of Stone Creek; five grandchildren, Christine (Dennis) McWilliams and Scott (Janine) Lauer both of New Philadelphia and Jeffery (Jonna) Cronebaugh, Steven (Sarah) Cronebaugh and Janelle Cronebaugh all of Stone Creek and five great grandchildren, Sarah and Nicholas McWilliams, Isaac Lauer and Reed and Sophia CronebaughMildred was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph on June 6, 1962; a grandson, David Ralph Lauer and a sister, Gladys Angel.The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 2, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia and again one hour prior to the service at the church. The Pomona Grange will conduct services on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home. A funeral service celebrating Mildred’s life will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Grace Community Church at Stone Creek with Rev. Bill Haggis officiating. Burial will follow in Stone Creek Cemetery.
