Michael E. Gilland, 61, of New Philadelphia, passed away in Community Hospice Truman House on December 16, 2017.
Born in Dover on May 18, 1956, he was the son of Joanne (Rittenour) Gilland of New Philadelphia and the late David E. Gilland.
Mike worked alongside his family at Haas Body Shop in Dover, and was presently the owner and operator of the company. He was also a member of the New Philadelphia Elks, the Dover Moose, and the New Philadelphia AmVets.
Mike loved to golf, gamble, and travel. He was also an avid Ohio State sports and NASCAR fan. Locally, he served as a past president with the Dover Exchange Club and was one of the racing greats at Midvale Speedway.
On February 12, 2002, he married the former Margaret A. “Maggie” Murphy of New Philadelphia. His family also includes his children, Michael and Wes Gilland, both of New Philadelphia, Maria (Steven) Haberman of Columbus; his grandchildren, Damon, Kailey, Brody, and Grace; his step-children, Ryan (Joanna) Rufener and Sean Rufener, both of New Philadelphia; step-grandchildren, Justin, Bradon, and Baylee Rufener; his siblings, Debbie Wade, Connie (Mike) Popovich, Steve (Michelle) Gilland, and Lisa (Ronnie) Dague; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held Friday December 22, 2017 beginning at 6 PM at Ricardo’s Party Center at New Philadelphia.
