MICHAEL F. VINCI, 79, died unexpectedly in his Dover home on Memorial Day, Monday, May 26, 2003. On December 27, 1923, Mike was born in Canton. He graduated from Timken Vocational High School in June 1941 and in July; he enlisted with the U. S. Navy. Wounded during the service, Mike was honorably discharged in December 1946. He worked for Republic Steel in Canton retiring after 32 years service as a metallurgist. Mike’s passion was playing golf at various Canton area courses. While living in the Canton area, Mike belonged to the McKinley Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Massillon Elks Lodge. He was a former member of the Green Valley Golf Club. Mike married the former Kathleen Craft Franz Vinci on June 3, 1987 and moved to New Philadelphia. Along with Katie he was a member of Sacred Heart Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by stepchildren, Darlene (Joe) McLaughlin of Dover, Hattie (Jim) Purses of Canton and Pete (Beth) Franz of Dover; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and one sister, Anne Wenger of Canton. Besides his parents, two brothers and a sister preceded Mike in death. Visitation will be Thursday, May 29, 2003 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home with the funeral to follow at 8:00 PM with Rev. Msgr. George J. Schlegel officiating. Military burial rites will be conducted on Friday at 11:30 AM at the Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman. Contributions instead of flowers to Sacred Heart Church, 139 Third St., NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663 have been encouraged.
