Michael Eric Gasser, 54, of New Philadelphia, passed away Friday evening, May 30, 2014 following injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Born in Dover on October 21, 1959, he was the son of Silvia Ann “Sas” (McMurray) Gasser and the late Alden Dean Gasser.
After graduating in 1978 from Indian Valley North and Buckeye Career Center’s Auto Body department, Mike spent his professional career as a truck driver and auto body technician.
Mike had a wealth of hobbies and interests he participated in. He greatly enjoyed coaching his daughter’s teams in the New Phila Junior Miss Softball league and researching his family genealogy. NASCAR enthusiast, outdoorsman, and Harley rider were a few titles he held. He also enjoyed attending auctions, where he often bought dollar boxes and searched for treasurers in them. Researching family genealogy was important to him also.
Mike was always willing to put other people ahead of himself helping with projects of any friend needing a hand.
A passion of Mike’s was restoring classic Mustangs. He and his father restored a ’67 Shelby that was nationally recognized and featured in both the Muscle Car Magazine and Mustang Monthly. He also supported the Traveling Memorial Wall for Fallen Bikers and the local Badstone Band.
Most importantly, he was a father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend. Mike was always helping others and greatly enjoyed spending quality time with his family.
He will be deeply missed by his daughters Natalie (fiancé, Jason Scott) Gasser of Sugarcreek, Erica (fiancé, Ross Wagner) Gasser of Jackson, and Michele (Brett) Warner of Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska; his grandchildren, Brynley, Bryson and Braxten McVicker, Payne Wagner, and Rylie and Mason Warner; his mother, Sas Gasser; his brothers, Bob (Deb) Gasser and Larry (Pat) Gasser, both of New Philadelphia; and several aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents, Herman and Helen Gasser and Ed and Silvia Raymond; and his father, Alden “Dean” Gasser.
Memorial visitation will be held in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover, 5600 N. Wooster Ave., on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. A memorial service celebrating Mike’s life will be held in the funeral home Friday beginning at 4 p.m.
Immediately following the service, friends are invited to share in a meal at Geibs. Private inurnment of Mike’ cremated remains will take place at a later date in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia.
Memorial contributions in Mike’s memory may be directed to the Dover-Phila Federal Credit Union, 119 Fillmore Ave, Dover, Ohio 44622, where a memorial fund has been set up to benefit his grandchildren.
