Merrill Aleene Cargnel

Merrill Aleene Cargnel, age 73, of New Philadelphia, passed away early Friday morning, April 1, 2011 with her family at her side in Union Hospital at Dover.Born June 28, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Merle L. and Ruby (Roland) Wise. After completing her high school education, Merrill studied at The Kent State University where she sang in their choir.Merrill spent the majority of her lifetime as a loving wife and mother, caring for her family. She also was a crossing guard for 14 years with the city of Akron.Outside of the home, she was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Oldtown Valley and participated in the Meinheim Auto Auctions in Detroit for a number of years. On September 14, 1957, Merrill married her husband, Richard V. Cargnel, who survives. In addition to her husband, Merrill will be deeply missed by her children including Brett (Danieta) Cargnel of Cuyahoga Falls, Mark (Tracey) and Robert (Diane) Cargnel, both of Michigan, Michael (Sandi) Cargnel of Parma and Melanie (Ron “Butch” )Purkhiser of Akron; her brother, David Wise of Oregon; 12 grandchildren, Matthew Cargnel, Cathy (Dan) Artino, Heather (Jason) Purkhiser Ward, Samantha Cargnel, Christopher Cargnel, Ethan Cargnel, Holly Purkhiser, Brandon Cargnel, Jay Cargnel, Olivia Cargnel, Anthony Kolton, and Travis Cargnel; and one great-granddaughter, Hanna Purkhiser.In addition to her parents, Merrill was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Carol Jo Cargnel.In keeping with Merrill’s wishes, cremation is being cared for through Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. A memorial service celebrating Merrill’s life will be held in Calvary Baptist Church, 1507 Oldtown Valley Rd. SE, New Philadelphia on Sunday, April 3, 2011 beginning at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Don Snow officiating.
