Merle A. Clum, 61, of Tuscarawas, died Friday, October 25, 2002, at the S. E. Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge, OH.Born in New Philadelphia, he was the son of Marie Fisher Clum of Tuscarawas and the late Arthur E. Clum. He was an All-Ohio basketball player for New Philadelphia High School, graduating in 1959, and worked for Beaver Excavating Company in Canton for 16 years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.In addition to his mother, Merle is survived by his wife, Trude L. Powers Clum; a son, Darren (Cheryl) Clum of Dayton; two daughters, Darla (Richard) Reding of Strasburg and Jennifer (Marcel) Van de Vusse of Strasburg; two step-daughters, Deanna (Andy) Shaum of Tappan Lake and Jamie (Dan Ott, fiancé) Carpenter of Dennison; and 9 grandchildren, Marissa and Sarah Van de Vusse, Emma Clum, Olivia Gardensky, Wyatt Reding, John and Sean McKean, and Hillary and Jacob Carpenter and many nieces and nephews.In addition to his father, Merle was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra K. Brown and Nancy Polilli.In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service and cremation will be conducted through the care of Geib’s Tuscarawas Valley Crematory. Friends may visit with the family on Monday, October 28, 2002, from 1-8 PM at Merle’s home, 316 Mill Street, Tuscarawas, OH, 44682.
