Melvin Hyler

Melvin Albert Hyler, age 62, of Dover, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 following a sudden illness.

A son of the late Melvin C. and Alice (Tittle) Hyler, Melvin was born at Reno, NV on February 5, 1954.

He graduated from Indian Creek High School at Indiana and completed his formal education with Kent State University and Franklin University where he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Information Systems.

Melvin served his country as a member of the United States Army and was stationed at West Point at one point during his tenure, where he taught auto mechanic classes.

Professionally, he served as the Director of Information Technology for L.J. Smith Stair of Bowerston. He was an active member of the Zoarville Christian Chapel, where he served in various roles and taught Sunday School. Melvin enjoyed reading and learning about History and was especially intrigued with the Civil War.

Survivors include his daughter, Kristi (Neal) Holden of Monroe, OH; a granddaughter, Molly Holden; his brother, Bobby (Carol) Litteral of Indiana; his extended family, Eunice (Ralph) Gault of Colorado, Dan (Donna) Oettinger of Canada and David (Grace) Oettinger of New Philadelphia as well as his nieces and nephews and many other cousins.

In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a cousin Dorcas (Ken) Brown and a special Aunt and Uncle, Pastor William and Madaline Oettinger.

The family will greet guests on Thursday, October 6, 2016 from 5-7 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A celebration of Melvin’s life will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM in the Funeral Home’s Chapel with Pastor Alan Christner officiating.
