Melba Jo Galbraith

Melba Jo Galbraith, age 76, of New Philadelphia, died peacefully in her home earlier this week. Born at her family’s New Philadelphia home on St. Patrick’s Day, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence Edward and Ada Alice Rankin Galbraith. A 1953 graduate of New Philadelphia High School, Melba went on to work at the former City Savings and Loan and later, the former Kronebaugh Insurance Agency. A lifelong member of New Philadelphia’s First Christian Church, Melba was active in the church’s former Christian Women’s Fellowship, and for many years served as the secretary of the Sunday School Department. A quiet, pleasant and unassuming lady, Melba will be remembered for her faithful attentiveness to her friends and congregation’s needs. Many, many people received cards marking milestones in their lives, or greetings and get well cards from Melba. Survivors include her brother, Lynne Galbraith of Jacksonville, FL, as well as her nieces and nephews; Elaine (husband, Lynn) Orr of Marco Island, FL, Jon (wife, Sherry) Galbraith of Jacksonville, FL, Kevin (wife, Monica) Godwin of Alachua, FL, and Jim (wife, Tiffany) Godwin of Ocoee, FL.Seven great-nieces and great-nephews; Lauren and Jennifer Orr, Peyton and Austin Galbraith, Christopher Godwin and Nicole and Megan Godwin also survive.Melba’s close friends, with whom she lunched, worshipped, and kept in close contact with, complete her family. In addition to her parents, Melba is preceded in death by her sisters-in-law, Joanne E. Galbraith and Charleen Galbraith. Friends are invited to call Monday morning from 10:30 to 11 in First Christian Church at New Philadelphia where Pastor Jim Borton will lead Ms. Galbraith’s funeral service Monday morning at 11 in the church sanctuary. A private burial is planned in her family plot at Evergreen Burial Park. Following the service at the church, a reception will be given in the church fellowship hall.
