Mearl F. Buker, age 82, of Dover, died Saturday, September 20, 2008, in Riverside Methodist Hospital at Columbus.A son of the late Jacob and Fern (McShane) Buker, Mearl was born at Coshocton on July 18, 1926.He was a 1944 graduate of Coshocton High School and soon entered in to the United States Military where he dutifully served his country during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. In 1952, Mearl married the former Martha E. Workman and together the couple reared two children.For more than 39 years Mearl worked for the General Electric Company at Coshocton.Mearl was a Past Master of the Coshocton Masonic Lodge 96 F & AM as well as the Past Master of the Old Oak Grove Grange. In addition to his civic involvements, Mearl was also a long time member of Park United Methodist Church at Coshocton and had recently transferred his membership to the Bolivar United Methodist Church.In addition to his wife, Mearl is survived by his two children, Mark Buker and his wife, Dickie of New Philadelphia, and Beth Downes and her husband, George of Bolivar. Three grandchildren, Nathan Buker, Laura Buker and Sarah Downes complete the family.In keeping with Mearl’s wishes, he has been cremated through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. A graveside service will be led by Pastor Paula Koch on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 11:00 AM in the South Lawn Cemetery at Coshocton.Memorial contributions in Mearl’s name may be made to Bolivar United Methodist Church, PO Box 435, Bolivar, Ohio 44612 or to Hospice of Coshocton County, 230 South Fourth Street, Coshocton, OH 43812.
