Maxine E. Sampson, age 88, of Millville, New Jersey and formerly of the Tuscarawas Valley, died Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at Millville Center Genesis. She was born at Rush Township, on June 27, 1920 to the late Daniel and Anna (Reiker) Edwards. Maxine attended school at Rush Township and married Robert E. Sampson on June 9, 1939.Bob pursued a calling to the Christian Ministry with Maxine at his side. After a college career at Eastern Nazarene College, Bob was ordained in 1954. Maxine supported her husband at four pastorates in New England, Canada, and upstate New York. Her calling clearly was that of “faithful shepherdess” ministering with open home to those with needs. After rearing a family of three, the couple retired to the Tuscarawas Valley and then Oak Grove Village in Trenton, Florida. Bob passed away November 26, 2001 and Maxine soon relocated to join family in New Jersey.Maxine is survived by her three children, a daughter, Sandra K. (Eric) Hardy of Markdale, Ontario, two sons; Robert E. (Sharon) Sampson, Jr. of Millville, New Jersey and Daniel T. (Juanita) of Bonsall, California; four grandchildren, Susan Hardy, Robert Hardy, Robert E. Sampson, III, and Lori (Charles) Sturgis, a brother, Harold (Ann) Edwards of Scio; four sisters, Rebecca Furbay of New Philadelphia, Vada Ravine of Dover, Helen (Robert) Clarke of Rush Township, and Lois Jarvis of Strasburg, two sisters-in-law, Irene Edwards of Mineral City and Elizabeth Edwards of New Philadelphia and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by two brothers, Dallas Edwards and Earnest Edwards.The family will receive visitors on Thursday, February 5, 2009, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Dr. Fred Wallis will lead a service celebrating Maxine’s life on Friday, February 6, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. Following the committal, the family would like to invite guests to join them in the church social hall for a time of food and fellowship.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Maxine’s name may be sent to Rush Christian School, 4617 Watson Creek Rd SE, Uhrichsville, Ohio 44683.
