Maxine Eileen Voshall

October 26, 1919 — March 23, 2004

Maxine E. Voshall, 84, long-time resident of New Philadelphia, passed away in her sleep on Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at New Dawn Retirement Community.Maxine was born in Dover to the late Clark and Sarah “Sadie” Kerr Mason. A graduate of Dover High School, she married Ernest W. Voshall on July 3, 1938. The couple met at a dance at the Spanish Ballroom in Dover and celebrated more than 65 years together.Together the couple belonged to Emmanuel Lutheran Church. For more than 40 years, Maxine was a member of the Tuscarawas Valley Duplicate Bridge Club, an activity she shared with her daughter Bonnie for many years. Additionally, she belonged to various other Bridge playing clubs in the area for over 60 years.More than anything, Maxine enjoyed taking care of her family, especially her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Maxine and Ernie’s family home was the site for many Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter get togethers. When her daughters were little, the family spent many wonderful times at their Atwood Lake cabin.Maxine is survived by her husband, Ernest; daughters, Linda (Ward) Holdsworth and Bonnie (Tom) Yanders of New Philadelphia and a sister, Roberta McMillen, all of New Philadelphia; sister-in-law, Pauline Mason of Dover; grandchildren, Scott (Jonni) Holdsworth, Kristin (Tim) Hawk, Jay (Laurie) Yanders and Todd (Suzanne) Yanders; great-grandchildren, Tyler and Erik Holdsworth; Sam and Spencer Hawk; Kelsey and Kari Yanders; Lucas and Rachel Yanders. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Joseph Hawk; a sister, Evelyn Carlisle; and a brother, Herbert Mason.Visitation will be in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home from 6:00 to 9:00 PM on Thursday, March 25, 2004, with Church Council services at 5:45 PM. The funeral service will be conducted on Friday, March 26, 2004 at 11:00 AM in Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 202 E. High Ave. in New Philadelphia with the pastor, Rev. Michael E. Walters officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, everyone is invited to a meal in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Interment will be private.Contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Tuscarawas County, 201 W. Third St., Dover, OH 44622.
