Maxine Armstrong

Maxine Armstrong, 95, “born a redhead and died a redhead”, passed away on August 21, 2003, in Hennis Care Center in Dover.Born May 7, l908 to the late Lewis and Nora Mathews, Maxine spent the rest of her life living throughout Tuscarawas County in Midvale, Uhrichsville, and New Philadelphia. Her father was the owner and manager of the Midvale General Store.Maxine attended the Midvale “one-room school” Elementary School and New Philadelphia High School. She was a member of the Midvale Methodist Church where she sang in and played the piano for the choir.Maxine married the love of her life, Vic Armstrong, on November 3, l928, and resided in Uhrichsville. together they raised their daughter and son, Martha (Richard J.) Armstrong Denman of Rancho Santa Fe, California, and Vic (Margie) Armstrong of Albuquerque, New Mexico.After her husband’s death on November 25, 1951, she worked for 30 years for the Ohio Welfare Department in New Philadelphia and was very proud of and received much contentment from helping those in need.In addition to her two children, Maxine is survived by four grandchildren, Rik Denman Jr. of San Diego, CA, Kyle Denman of Santa Fe, New Mexico, Debbie Moyer of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Scott Armstrong of Scottsdale, Arizona. she is affectionately known as “Cene” to seven great-grandchildren in California, New Mexico, and Arizona.Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Bernard, Dale, Stanley, and Robert “Babe” Mathews.At Maxine’s request, immediate cremation has taken place through the care of the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory. There are no calling hours.
