Maxine A. Connor, age 82, of New Philadelphia, died Friday, May 23, 2008, in Aultman Hospital at Canton.A daughter of the late George E. and Bertha Boyd Belknap, Maxine was born on July 4, 1925, at New Philadelphia and was a 1943 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.During World War II Maxine served as a bearing inspector for The Timken Company and met Mr. Edward Connor. The two soon found a deep love amongst a friendship and were wed on July 6, 1946.Following their marriage, Maxine took on the role of wife and mother. She always made sure that the house was in near perfect order and that food was on the table for dinner time.As a child of the depression era, Maxine learned to be strong and independent and reared her children in much the same fashion. That didn’t mean however, that she didn’t know how to have fun as she was always willing to take part in a good practical joke. But, if the joke was on her, the giving party was sure to find out she would soon get even.Maxine was a very active member of the First Church of the Nazarene at New Philadelphia. She involved her self in Sunday School Class work, Mission Work and served as a member of the church board for many years.She is survived by her husband of over 60 years, Edward Connor; a son, Stephen (Caroline) Connor of North Canton; a daughter, Elaine (Daniel) Widder of Sugarcreek; two sisters, Bessie Schwartz and Ruby Swihart both of New Philadelphia; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Belknap of New Philadelphia; and five grandchildren, David (Becky) Widder, Denise (Scott) Cooley, Maggie (Tim) Spitale, Patrick Connor and Michael Connor.In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by a twin brother, Maxwell Belknap; a brother Roy Belknap; and a sister Gladys Emery.Friends may call on Tuesday, May 27, 2008 from 2:00 â?? 4:00 PM and again from 6:00 â?? 8:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Dr. Fred Wallis will lead the Connor Service on Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at 10:30 AM in the funeral home’s Chapel. Burial will follow in the East Avenue Cemetery at New Philadelphia.Following services, a memorial luncheon will be held in the Family Life Center of the Nazarene Church at New Philadelphia.The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Mission Society Fund of the First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Avenue NE, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
