Max V Ritenour

Max V. Ritenour, Jr. age 65, of New Philadelphia died unexpectedly, Tuesday, December 6, 2011.A son of the late Max and Mae (Pease) Ritenour, Sr., Max was born in Union Hospital at Dover on November 27, 1946.He was a 1965 graduate of Dover High School and went on to serve in the United States Army for more than 16 years as an active duty and reserve forces member. Max served two tours of duty in Vietnam and was stationed state-side in Texas and Virginia and overseas in Germany. At the time of his discharge he held the rank of Staff Sergeant.For more than 20 years, Max served the local area as an owner/operator truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle, and taking trips to Wheeling Island, Mountaineer, and Gatlinburg, Tennsesse.The activities he enjoyed most were spending time with his wife and his granddaughter. Additionally, he particularly enjoyed the social interaction of those around him and enjoyed conversing with others at local establishments, and was a life member of the Carl C. Stoller Post 1445 of the New Philadelphia VFW, and the Army-Navy at Shady Rest as well as holding memberships at the Dover Eagles and the New Philadelphia Am-Vets. Max will forever be remembered by his family which includes his wife of 24 years the former Kathy Hoover, whom he married on September 18, 1987; her son, whom he raised as his own, T.J. (Jenica) Smith of Bolivar; a beloved granddaughter, Makenzie; a daughter, Rhonda of Arizona and her five children; a sister, Marcia Eichelberger of Stone Creek and her fiancé, Marty Sauser; and three brothers, Mike (Alice) Ritenour of Bolivar, Mark (Cheryl) Ritenour of Atwood, and Matt (Cindy) Ritenour of Tuscarawas.Numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins complete the family.In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by a number of aunts and uncles.The family will receive friends one hour prior to services on Sunday, December 11, 2011 from 2:00 â?? 3:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia. Reverend Hugh B. Berry will lead a memorial service celebrating Max’s life in the funeral home’s chapel on Sunday at 3:00 PM. Following the service, a military salute provided by Max’s comrades of the New Philadelphia VFW will take place at the funeral home’s flagpole. At the conclusion of the honor salute, Friends are invited to join the family for a gathering of food and fellowship in the Geib Family Center, adjacent to the New Philadelphia funeral home.Memorial contributions in Max’s name may be directed to a veteran charity of the donor’s choice.
