Max Moreland, 81, of New Philadelphia, passed away December 29, 2014 from a short illness.
Born June 21, 1933, in New Philadelphia, he was the son of Alpha and Vida (Gartrell) Moreland.
After completing his formal education at Midvale High School, he spent 36 years at I.F. Manufacturing. Later he continued his professional career with E. Warther and Son, where he worked for 23 years.
On April 25, 1954, Max married his lifelong companion and friend, the former Shirley Carruthers. Together, they celebrated more than 60 years of devoted and loving marriage.
Max enjoyed working outside, detailing his cars, watching his grandchildren play sports, and spending time with his family. He was also a lifetime member of Otterbein United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of New Philadelphia; his three children, Dana (Carol) Moreland of Dover, David (Kris) Moreland of New Philadelphia, and Darla (Lew) Clark of Scottsdale, Arizona.
He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Nicole (Brian) Sears, Ashley (Chris) Wagner, Kyle (Dani) Moreland, Lucas (Hanah) Moreland, Mollie (John) Stephenson, Taylor and Tori Moreland all from New Philadelphia, Kristen Moreland from Dover, Caitlin Clark from Columbus, and Daniel and Mary Grace Clark of Scottsdale, Arizona; four great-grandchildren, Addison and Cooper Sears, Isaac and Nicholas Wagner, and a fifth expected Summer 2015.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and only sibling, Virginia Yosick.
Visitation will be held in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home at New Philadelphia on Friday from 11:30 to 2 p.m. A service celebrating Max’s life will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Burial Park.
Friends are invited to the Geib Family Center following the committal service where a meal will be shared.
