Maurice Oliver

Maurice L. Oliver, age 97, of Dover died peacefully Sunday, July 08, 2012, in his daughter’s Columbus home where he has been cared for since the passing of his beloved wife, Betty, who died March 23, 2012.

Born at Barton, Ohio on January 21, 1915, Maurice was a son of the late Gilbert R. and Elizabeth M. (Wells) Oliver.

Following his graduation from high school, Maurice entered into the United States Army Airforce on March 21, 1941. He served his country as a Tech Sergeant during World War II and was discharged on November 14, 1945.

For 29 years, Maurice was employed by the B&O Railroad where he worked as a Car Foreman. He later became the auto parts manager for Potschner Ford at Dover and prior to his retirement spent a decade with Beitner Tire at Dover.

For many years, Maurice was a member of the Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church and later joined the Dover First United Methodist Church where he served as the church treasurer for 16 years. He also served as a Boy Scout Leader and Explorer Post Leader for many years.

He is survived by two daughters, Carole Fait of Bolivar, and Karen (Harold) Link of Columbus, Ohio; three sons, Edward (Joan) Oliver of Williams Lake, British Columbia, Canada, Brian (Becky) Oliver of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Bryce (Julie) Oliver of Hilliard, Ohio.

Nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren complete the family.

In addition to his parents and wife, Betty, whom he married on October 19, 1941, Maurice was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Clark, Kathleen Payne, and a brother, Harold E. Oliver.

Pastor Brian Flood will lead a funeral service celebrating Maurice’s life on Friday, July 13, 2012 at 11:00 in the Geib Funeral Center at Dover. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Dover Burial Park.

Following the committal service, a luncheon will be served in the Hospitality Room of the Geib Funeral Center at Dover.
