Matthew Richard Ellis, 92, of New Philadelphia, died Tuesday evening, August 9, 2005 surrounded by family at the residence of his daughter.A son of the late Matthew and Lillie Wanacott Ellis, Matthew was born February 8, 1913 in New Philadelphia.He was a 1931 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. Matthew had worked as an accountant for the Ohio Power Co., Cummins Diesel, Harchem Division of Wallace and Tirenan, H. C. Spring Electric, and as New Philadelphia City Auditor.He was an active member of the New Philadelphia First United Church of Christ where he was a teacher, chorister, member of the consistory and superintendent in the church school. Matthew was also a long time member of the New Philadelphia Lodge No. 177 Free and Accepted Masons.He is survived by a daughter, Rosalie “Rose” (Howard) Daniels Boor of Mineral City; son, Dr. Richard “Rick” (Diane) Ellis of Hixson, TN; brother, John (Ruth) Ellis, of New Philadelphia; grandchildren, Garry (Kimberly) Daniels, Dawn (Matt) Frizzell, Rob (Jen) Ellis, Gwen (Paul) Finton, Howard, Salena and Amanda Boor; and great grandchildren, Breanna, Brooke, Grace, Alyvia, Savanna, Cheyenne, Rayann, Jake and Paul.Matthew was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Mary Elizabeth Beitzel Ellis, who died January 29, 1985.In accordance with his wishes there will be no visitation and cremation will take place through the care of Geib’s. The Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory, of New Philadelphia is handling the arrangements. A graveside service at Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia will be held on Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. The New Philadelphia Lodge No. 177 F & AM will conduct masonic services. Friends and family are invited to the Geib Family Center in New Philadelphia following the committal.
